The Witch of The Westmoreland
A downloadable game
Pale was the wounded knight, that bore the rowan shield
Loud and cruel were the raven's cries that feasted on the field
Saying "Beck water cold and clear will never clean your wound
There's none but the witch of the Westmoreland can make thee hale
and sound”
The Witch of the Westmoreland is a tarot based Arthurian fantasy RPG inspired by the song 'The Witch of the West-mer-lands' by Archie Fisher, and horrors drawn from English and Welsh folk tales.
You will need : a tarot deck and 2-5 players, one of whom will act as the GM
You play the companions of a knight who has been gravely wounded in battle. Your task is to escort him safely through the forests to the Witch of the Westmoreland, the only one who can heal his wounds.
But be warned: the woods are dangerous and terrifying, full of things waiting to devour unwary travellers.
Inspired by Royal Blood by Grant Howitt

Great game, love the writing and the mythology!! I modified it into solo game with a Four Against Darkness hack to it. I originally played it by starting with the 5 Arcana and due to failures usually ended up with 8-10 before I ran out and then meet the witch. But this time I breezed through it, only failed once so got up to 6 Arcana. But the rest I was successful, so I only lost one talent in total. So I was wondering if I am doing it wrong. Is the goal to go through all 21-1=20 Arcana before meeting the witch? I guess I wonder why we start with 5 Arcana if we end up going through the remaining 20. Thanks!!
Hey! I'm running this for some friends over the weekend. We're all really excited. The screenshots of the character sheets on this page aren't in the PDF. Do you have other files somewhere?
Hiya! I'm really sorry I didn't see this comment.I may have now missed the boat, but the character sheets are in the old PDF file from before I updated the layout. I made it possible to download now.
We pushed it to this weekend! Thank you so much!
A really beautiful sense of folk arthuriana runs through this - it feels like listening to Archie Fisher or the Melrose Quartet, from top to bottom. The encounters present an interesting range of options that give the game-runner a direction but let them roll with it in a way that really adds to the sense that you'll get a unique little folk-tale each time. An excellent balance between freedom and constraint in how players and runners get to influence the story, and to face its challenges. It's convinced me to finally get a tarot deck of my own, and I'm excited to run it as soon as I can find the folks to - thank you!
Hi, *really* interested in purchasing this, and I'm thoroughly impressed by how you put this together, from what I can see. But is there any way to purchase this without using PayPal? If not, I can respect your choice, but I had too much hassle with PP in the past with linking cards to make a purchase.
Hi Maarten- I've just set up stripe payment if that works?
Perfect! Purchased it, reading it now! Thank you SO much for setting this up!
This game is evocative and full of flavor. Every word choice, every picture, every name is meticulously considered and chosen to create a very specific experience. If you’re into Arthurian horror and/or folk music, it is very worth checking out and running as a one shot/small series.
